Asthma may occur at any age. Frequently seen in early childhood and mid-adulthood. As is the case in any chronic illness, there is a tendency for people with asthma to underestimate the degree of trouble that they are experiencing. It is extremely important to have a careful and thorough evaluation and regular medical supervision.
It is an inflammatory process which affects the respiratory tract and impairs breathing. Signs include: coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath and exercise intolerance; mucous production and bronchial muscle spasms.
Increased airway irritability. Exact cause is unknown.
Acupuncture has been shown to be beneficial in treating asthma. Many studies have demonstrated that acupuncture can reduce the frequency and severity of asthma attacks.
